The Walmart Food Safety Collaboration Center at Walmart is committed to improving food safety in all the countries and communities where we operate. Located in Beijing, the Walmart Center promotes and fosters close collaboration between Chinese universities, associations, businesses, and government to achieve positive impact on food safety. Our focus is to give back to society by leveraging “open innovation” and in partnership across the food and retail industries.
The Walmart Center is comprised of three distinct work streams or “pillars,” comprising innovation, education and policy support. We believe that one of the exciting promises of technological innovation is the ability to positively impact the broader food system. That is why the Walmart Center’s first pillar is dedicated to collaboration on late-stage technological innovation and implementing applied science solutions.
Food safety education is another important component of food safety. Our effort partners with domestic organizations to support consumer food safety education for children, parents, and industry. We believe that culture plays a vital role in food safety, and we encourage visitors to our website to visitour education page for further information and to become part of the movement toward safer food behaviors.
Finally, capacity building is an area where public-private partnerships can make significant impact. The Sam Walton Chair in Food Safety Law at Renmin University is dedicated to building capacity in close partnership with the government. We aim to be an active participant in the official dialogue on food safety regulation and enforcement, bringing partners together and providing constructive input.
